Blow Art Poppies – Remembrance Day Activity

Here’s a simple and fun Remembrance Day Activity for your toddler or young child.

  1. Invite your child to put a blob of red paint on their paper. They could use a paint brush to do this or a paper straw.
  2. Using the paper straw, blow the red paint around the page making a kind of roundish shape.
  3. Then, dip their finger in some black paint and they can dot the middle of the red poppy.
  4. Using a straw, a paint brush or their finger again, they can add the green stem for the poppy using green paint.
  5. Let it dry.

This activity is fun, messy and practises blowing skills which may help your child with talking and forming different sounds.

My top tips for keeping the mess contained:

  • Have a washable or wipeable floor mat
  • Use an apron, bib or old t-shirt.
  • Speak to your child and remind them about where paint stays.
  • Go outside if you know the mess won’t be contained inside or you don’t want paint inside.
  • Use a large play tray like ours for your child to sit on or work on.
  • Wash everything up straightaway.
