Red Paper Plate Poppies – Remembrance Day Activity

Remembrance Day is almost upon us. Here’s a simple Remembrance Day Activity for your toddler or young child. It could even be great at nursery or a childminder.

Red Paper Plate Remembrance Day Toddler Craft
  1. Paint your paper plate red using brushes or sponges.
  2. Let it dry.
  3. Give your child some black paper. Get them to rip it up into smaller pieces or get them to use scissors to do this. Both are great fine motor skills activities.
  4. Glue to black paper onto the middle of the red plate.
  5. Let that dry. You now have a red poppy for Remembrance Day.

My three-year-old loved this and we’ll do it again this year too.

My top tips for keeping the mess contained:

  • Have a washable or wipeable floor mat
  • Use an apron, bib or old t-shirt.
  • Speak to your child and remind them about where paint stays.
  • Go outside if you know the mess won’t be contained inside or you don’t want paint inside.
  • Use a large play tray like ours for your child to sit on or work on.
  • Wash everything up straightaway.
